Nick Lowe with Wilco - Cruel to Be Kind
I saw that Wilco was on Austin City Limits last night (thanks Sociological Fieldnotes). I only managed to catch the last 20 minutes but on the last song Nick Lowe came out and they performed this classic. Usually I think “Oh, some old guy dredging up his past.” But I actually found Nick Lowe’s performance very moving. Somehow the song takes on different meaning coming from an older Nick Lowe. As an older guy myself I wonder if it’s just my tendency to be nostalgic, or if some songs gain something extra with time?
