With all this Dylan stuff being posted today I thought I’d post this song. Who doesn’t like a Dylan parody? This one is spot on, and takes it to another level with Dr. Seuss lyrics.

The Chords - Turn Away Again
Another band accused of being Jam copyists. Untrue I say. The Chords were one of the great lost bands of 1979-1981. Chris Pope wrote some brilliant songs. This was their last single, with Kip Herring, formerly of the Vibrators, on vocals (Billy Hassett having left the group). I have always had a great fondness for this particular song.
I guess you never thought it would end like this

The Jolt - Everybody’s the Same (1978)
The Scottish Jam? Same record label and producer… Perhaps that’s unfair. Or did they just share the same influences? It’s not like the Jam were incredibly original early on. Listening closely to this song, it really doesn’t sound that much like the Jam, and fits in with the more pop sound of late 70s punk. That said, I am still offended by their awful tuxedo coats.
Your revolution was just an illusion

The Vapors - News at Ten (1980)
No doubt you know the Vapors from Turning Japanese, their novelty hit. But like a number of other one hit wonders, they had other songs which were actually really good. This song is more than a little reminiscent of the Jam (Weller’s father managed them too) but that’s okay, it’s still a great song.

Van and Titus - Cry Baby Cry
You know, sometimes you just want to listen to some “tear your heart out” deep soul, and this is perhaps, one of the finest examples of the genre. Churchy organ, incredible vocals, great arrangement….
Try to look inside the soul of a man

Bill Fay - Tiny
Is it me, or does this sound a bit like Guided by Voices? A Tobin Sprout song maybe? This song comes from a collection of demos and outakes from 1966-1970.

I have no idea why this album is out of print, but it’s my favorite Doug Sahm album.
